The permeation of protium and deuterium through a Pd-7.5at.%Y diffusion membrane has been investigated. A distinct difference in the permeation behaviour of these isotopes has been observed. The diffusion coefficients have been derived from the permeability measurements using the appropriate differential solubility data for these isotopes. The deuterium diffusion behaviour has been tentatively attributed to reversible solid state changes in the membrane material.
