Resumo

This work analyzes elements of gypsyidentity found in their forms of collective identifica-tion, how this identity is narrated, and the elementsthat articulate a vision of social group. With thispurpose, it chooses as its empirical model groupsof gypsies residing in the city of Sousa (PB). It alsoanalyzes the importance of religiosity for a signifi-cant portion of the gypsy community regarding itscultural identity.
