Resumo

AbstractThe effect of formalin fixation on the enzymatic activity of five enzymes in rat liver was studied as a function of time and temperature, β-glucuronidase was found to be most resistant to the inactivating effects of formalin. At a time when fixation was satisfactory for preparing frozen sections (24 hours), considerable enzymatic activity was present in decreasing order; β-glucuronidase, sulfatase, acid phosphatase, esterase, and alkaline phosphatase.
