Resumo

Dengue is an important health problem due to the number of cases in Brazil. TheBrazilian national Information System on Communicable Diseases (SINAN)was created to identify the number of cases of dengue and use this data forepidemiological evaluations, focused initiatives and to observe the impact of denguecontrol programs. The aim of the present study was to describe the epidemiologicprofile of dengue in Anapolis, a municipality of the State of Goias, from 2001 to2007. This study is descriptive and data was collected from the notification files ofthe municipal Epidemiological Surveillance center. Data was collected in March2008. 637 cases of dengue were notified during this period, with a higher incidencein 2002 (61/100,000) and the lower in 2004 (1/100,000). The profile of the identifiedcases was of urban inhabitants, age group from 20 to 39 years old, white race, andincomplete basic education. No gender differences were observed. Classic denguewas observed in the evolution of the cases, and cure was the rule. The number ofmissing information was high, implicating in underreporting and low quality of theinformation. We suggest training of the professionals on the correct fulfillment of therecords. The forms should be modified for an easier completion.
