ResumoCretaceous strata are widely distributed in China and rich in fossil spores and pollen grains. According to current data, two Cretaceous palynofloras occupy the North China and the South China paleobiogeographic provinces. For each palynoflora an assemblage sequence is proposed and described. The northern flora is composed of six assemblages (in ascending order): 1. Cicatricosisporites australiensis-Fixisporites tortus ; 2. Impardecispora tribotrys-Clavatipollenites hughesi ; 3. Cicatricosisporites exilis-Hymenozonotriletes mesozoicus ; 4. Quantonenpollenites crassatus-Cranwellia striatella ; 5. Beaupreaidites-Schizaeoisoporites ; 6. Aquilapollenites-Wodehouseia . The southern flora includes five assemblages: 1. Classopollis-Cicatricosisporites; 2. Cicatricosisporites ; 3. Schizaeoisporites; 4. Schizaeoisporites-Cranwellia ; 5. Pterisisporites-Jianghanpollis-Wodehouseia . The first appearance of the genus Cicatricosisporites, Jugella or Schizeoisporites is considered to be the index of the base of the Cretaceous System; the first occurrence of Cranwellia and Quantonenpollenites (or Galeacornea ) association is a good index for the Turonian assemblages. A correlation of the Cretaceous strata of China is made on the basis of the palynofloral sequences.
