ResumoResearch Article| March 01 2007 When Violence Is an End in Itself Barbara Crossette Barbara Crossette Barbara Crossette, a former chief correspondent for the New York Times in Southeast Asia and South Asia, has been writing about Sri Lanka for more than two decades. She received the George Polk Award for Foreign Reporting for her coverage in 1991 of the assassination of India's former prime minister, Rajiv Gandhi, by a Sri Lankan suicide bomber.
