This is the second edition of the American Psychoanalytic Association's glossary of psychoanalytic terms and concepts. It is truly a group effort, with 74 authors contributing to the definitions and descriptions of 164 frequently used psychoanalytic terms. The new edition adds three contributors, one new term, subtle revisions and polishing of most terms, and separate indexes for the glossary terms and for terms not to be found under their own heading. The glossary is an important public-information effort initiated by the Association's Committees on Public Information and Indexing to clarify for the lay public, scientific reporters, and professionals alike the current definition, status, and usage of terms that are often misunderstood and misused. As such, it has been singularly successful and is of value to all with any interest in psychoanalytic thinking and information.
