ResumoA new species, Staphylococcus intermedius, is described on the basis of a study of 50 strains isolated from the anterior nares of pigeons, dogs, mink, and horses. Strain H 11/68 (= CCM 5739 = NCTC 11048 = CNCTC M16/75) is the type strain of S. intermedius. A simple scheme for the differentiation of S. intermedius from Staphylococcus aureus is presented.
