ResumoThe hydrogenolysis of anisole was studied in a fixed-bed reactor at 300°C and 5 MPa hydrogen pressure on pure carriers and different catalysts containing Mo or Ni. Catalysts based on an acidic carrier gave mainly phenol and methyl-substituted phenols. On catalysts without an acidic support very little methyl substitution occurred and the main products were phenol and cyclic hydrocarbons. Reaction mechanisms and the structure of possible active sites are briefly discussed.
