Resumo

The importance of chemical exchange in determining the 35Cl linewidth in chloride ion probe measurements of protein-bound mercury sites is assessed. It is shown that in some cases the exchange rate may determine the observed broadening of the chloride ion resonance and in other cases it does not, depending on the protein investigated.
