ResumoA theoretical analysis of the phonon frequencies and polarization vectors at the Γ point of the Brillouin zone for LaMnO3 Pnma phase necessary for the interpretation of Raman and infrared spectra has been carried out. The analysis is based on group theoretical analysis as well as on a lattice dynamical calculation. The calculation has been made in the framework of the effective-charge- rigid-ion model by using the short-range Born-Mayer and long-range Coulomb potentials. A comparative study of phonon modes of LaMnO3 (Pnma phase) and La2CuO4 (Cmca phase) has also been performed.
