Resumo

Dynamic aspects of polymer adsorption and flocculation are considered and their relevance to the testing of polymeric flocculants is emphasised. In particular, the adsorption of polymer on particles can be slow compared to the flocculation rate in sheared suspensions and this can lead to some uncertainties in the interpretation of results from continuous tests. Results using a newly-developed flocculation monitor are presented, with a variety of suspensions and polymers, which illustrate some of the important points.
