Aquaculture Nutrition and Growth

Three treatments for piavuçu, Leporinus macrocephalus (Anostomidae) reproduction were utilized: broiler chicken hipophysis extract (BCHE), rabbit hipophysis extract (RHE) and, as control, carp hipophysis extract (CHE). Fifty-five males with 0.69kg, on average, were randomly allotted in the three treatments. Semen volume produced were higher (p0.05) in the three treatments. There was difference (p0.05) among the treatments, in relation of spermatic vigor and progressive motility. The study revealed that BCHE was efficient on males gonadal inducement of Leporinus macrocephalus, but RHE was not efficient, mainly, for produced volume.
