Learn more.Copy URL Share a linkShare onFacebookTwitterLinked InRedditWechat Abstract When Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa, now of the Tokyo-based firm SANAA (Sejima and Nishizawa and Associates), were selected to design the New Museum of Contemporary Art in 2002, they seemed an interesting but strange choice, since the cutting-edge museum was moving to the Bowery, an area known more for its down-and-out residents than its art-world glamour. But, as Jayne Merkel explains, the architects have managed to produce a building that is both rough and ready and beyond the fray.
