ResumoThis review of the historical aspects of Spinal Muscular Atrophy has highlighted three important axioms in historical studies: 1.If someone's name is attached to a disease, he is usually the second person to have described the disease; 2.If you discover something new do not read the early literature. It has all been described before. Far safer to just stick to PubMed, which covers the past 20–30 years; 3.If you quote historical papers always read the originals.
