ResumoUsing a standing-wave field generated between a sound source and a reflector, it is possible to trap small objects at nodes of the sound pressure distribution in air. In this study, a sound field generated under a flat or concave reflector was studied by both experimental measurement and numerical calculation. The calculated result agrees well with the experimental data. The maximum force generated between a sound source of 25.0 mm diameter and a concave reflector is 0.8 mN in the experiment. A steel ball of 2.0 mm in diameter was levitated in the sound field in air.
