ResumoSignificance Plant growth, the basis of agricultural production, is compromised when plants defend themselves against herbivores.Wound-induced growth reduction is coordinated between organs by hormones termed “jasmonates.” We developed a sensitive assay that marks tissues where wounding activates jasmonate function in seedlings. This assay showed that a key repressor of jasmonate responses is active mainly in roots where it permits normal growth. A deeper understanding of cell-size control is crucial in successfully engineering plants that display reduced growth restriction under stress.
