ResumoAbstract An absolute measurement of π 0 photoproduction on carbon has been carried out in the threshold region (from 135.8 to 190 MeV) using tagged annihilation photons and a large solid angle π 0 detector. The cross section which includes inelastic production in addition to the dominant elastic coherent process is found to be significantly larger than the one measured in a previous experiment. It is compared to existing theoretical predictions.
