ResumoMifepristone was approved in September 2000 as the first medical abortifacient in the US for up to 7 weeks of pregnancy. Approximately 1.4 million abortions occur each year [1], and almost half are eligible (less than 8 weeks gestation) for a medical abortion [2]. Medical abortion has the potential to offer many US women an earlier abortion option than surgical abortion.
