ResumoAbstract The reactions of oxybis(diacetoxyborane) with bifunctional tridentate semicarbazones derived from the condensation of 2-hydroxy-2-phenylacetophenone, 1-phenyl-1,3-butanedione, 2-hydroxyacetophenone, 2,4-pentanedione, 3-hydroxy-2-butanone, 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde and 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde with semicarbazide hydrochloride have been carried out in 1:1 and 1:2 molar ratios. The resulting derivatives of the type (Scz)B-O-B(OAc)2 and (Scz)B-O-B(Scz) (where Scz−2 represents the anion of semicarbazone) are coloured solids, non-electrolytes and monomeric in nature. On the basis of analytical data and infrared, electronic, 1H, 11B and 13C NMR spectral studies, tetra-coordinated structures have been assigned to the resulting boron complexes.
