ResumoCUDDEN death from lightning is not common; the ^ nation's reported deaths from lightning average approximately 300 per year, with a national average mortality of 1.9 deaths per 1,000,000 population per year. The death rate in North Carolina from lightning is between 1.0 and 2.4 deaths per 1,000,000 population per year.1 The opportunity to observe persons who survive a stroke of lightning is rare, and there are no published figures regarding the number of such survivals.
