ResumoAbstract The pyruvic oxidase system found in a cell particle obtained from Bacillus stearothermophilus is easily inactivated at the growing temperatures of the organism (60–65 °C.) unless magnesium ions, pyruvate, and oxygen are present. Pyruvic oxidase is the only enzyme (or system) thus far found in this organism that is sensitive to destruction by heat in the temperature range of optimum growth.
