Resumo

The resolution in photoelectron spectra is limited by the spectral width of the exciting radiation and the energy resolution of the electron analyser. Additionally, undesired structures are produced by nonmonochromatic sources. Deconvolution of the spectra often fails on unknown response functions, insufficient smoothing filters or inadequate deconvolution procedures. A method will be presented by which it is possible for the first time to increase the energy resolution of electron spectra by deconvolution by at least a factor of 2–3 without generation of artifacts or noise. A description of the smoothing filters, the determination of the response function and the deconvolution procedure is given and demonstrated on synthetic and measured spectra.
