ResumoABSTRACT In early September 1975 a Technical Committee was established by the Virginia State Department of Health to clean up and dispose of a manufacturing plant which had produced the pesticide Kepone, in Hopewell, Virginia. The Committee recommended that the hazardous wastes be buried in a virgin section of the new City of Hopewell landfill. The disposal pit was designed to encapsulate the wastes in clay and plastic. The project was completed in early March 1976. The disposal site is monitored by the Virginia State Water Control Board via an observation well and an underdrain system.
