Resumo

Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) study of the main phases in the Bi2O3–ZnO–Nb2O5 (BZN) system was performed. Electron diffraction patterns (EDP) revealed a conventional cubic pyrochlore structure, space group Fd3m for the Bi3/2ZnNb3/2O7 composition, and a monoclinic zirconolite-like structure, space group C2/c for the Bi2Zn2/3Nb4/3O7 composition. Dark field (DF) images gave evidence of stacking faults in the monoclinic phase along the 〈001〉 direction, which is consistent with the layered nature of the phase.
