Resumo

A quadrature head coil suitable for NMR imaging up to 80 MHz is described. Based on the well known design of Alderman and Grant, the four-quadrant coil has the attributes of distributed tuning capacitance and electrostatic guard rings, while maintaining the √2 improvement in sensitivity and. √2 improvement in effective B1 inherent in the quadrature design. The appropriate phase shifts for transmission and reception are generated with the aid of a coaxial cable ring hybrid, which is simple in design and affords a considerable degree of isolation between transmitter and receiver.
