ResumoAlberty Alfonso da Silva was looking fit and jaunty. If not exactly jogging along Avenida Boa Viagem in Recife, Brazil, in July, 2005, the affable Afro-Brazilian kidney seller was at least now, 2 years later, walking vigorously. But as soon as we ducked inside the lobby of a small beachfront hotel for a cafezinho, Alberty's insouciance and composure began to disintegrate. "Did Luanne send me anything?" he asked anxiously, referring to the middle-aged woman from New York City who had purchased Alberty's left kidney for US$6000 in July, 2003.
