ResumoAbstract [14C]Pentylenetetrazol (PTZ) given i.p. to adults rats (10 mg/kg) attains maximal levels in the brain within 10 min and is essentially all eliminated within 24 h. Chronic pretreatment of maturing rats with PTZ does not alter the levels found in brain relative to untreated controls. Based on brain levels of PTZ in 5 min, it is calculated that an effective concentration of 35–40 μg per g brain is required to initiate convulsions.
