Resumo

Converged coupled-channel calculations of $e\ensuremath{-}{\mathrm{CO}}_{2}$ scattering have been carried out at very low scattering energies. The results are used to show that a virtual state is present in the model static-exchange-polarization $e\ensuremath{-}{\mathrm{CO}}_{2}$ interaction potential used in these calculations. This result provides a possible interpretation for experimental data on total, momentum-transfer, and vibrational-excitation cross sections. A scattering length of $\ensuremath{-}6.17{a}_{0}$ is predicted.
