Resumo

Cells possess multiple pathways for transporting membranes and their enclosed contents to and from the cell surface and between intracellular compartments. The membranes involved in these transport phenomena are conserved and reutilized through a process of recycling. Neurons, which are analogous to secretory cells in their transport pathways, recycle the membranes of synaptic vesicles during the process of neurotransmitter release. Vesicle membrane added to the axolemma after exocytosis is selectively retrieved by coated vesicles which directly give rise to new synaptic vesicles.
