Abstract In a series of balloon ifights in May and June 1967 we found significant time variations in the X-ray fluxes above 15 keY from Scorpius X-1 and Cygnus XR-1. On June 26-27 the fluxes we measured for Scorpius X-1 in energy bands from 16 6 to 23.4 and 23.4 to 303 keV agreed with those measured by Peterson and Jacobson in June 1965 and were 2.3 and 2.8 times those we had measured for the same bands on May 16 On June 26-27 the flux from Scorpius X-1 between 23.4 and 46 7 keY was 2 times the flux we had observed for this band on May 25. From Cygnus XR-1 on June 27 we found a flux between 23.4 and 46 7 keV that was a factor of 2 6 lower than the flux we had found on May 25. We had already found that the flux in this energy band during our two May flights was 2.3 times higher than the flux we had observed in September 1966. We also observed a positive flux from the Sagittarius region and have found upper limits for Cygnus X-3, Cygnus XR-2, Serpens XR-1, M87, and Cassiopeia A Publication: The Astrophysical Journal Pub Date: September 1968 DOI: 10.1086/149714 Bibcode: 1968ApJ...153..899O full text sources ADS |
