Resumo

Vibrationally excited nitrogen (N*2) is studied using Helα photoelectron spectroscopy. N*2 produced directly in a microwave discharge shows indications of a non-Boltzmann vibrational distribution. N*2 produced in the reaction between N atoms and NO shows large deviations from Boltzmann behaviour, which reflects the vibrational distribution initially formed in the reaction. Photoelectron spectra of vibrationally excited molecules generated in an atom-molecule reaction are obtained for the first time.
