Resumo

2,3-Dihydro-1H-phenalene, a partially hydrogenated, three-ring, pericondensed polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH), was found to be a major component in the neutral PAH fractions of catalytic two-stage coal liquefaction process materials. The identification was based upon results from analyses by gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry of the coal liquid fractions and a synthesized reference compound, whose structure was confirmed by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
