This paper derives new synthesis methods for arbitrary N-valued functions of n M-valued variables as permutation cascades with normalized cells. A first method, which is valid whenever N 2(mod 4), leads to canonical cascades of length 2Mn−1 − 1. Using this result, one presents a second method, valid for any N, giving cascades which are twice as long.
