Abstract The Raman spectra of solid CCl4 and isotopically enriched C35Cl4 have been recorded under high resolution at 77°K and other temperatures. The spectra of polycrystalline films of C35Cl4 have shown that splittings of the degenerate fundamentals are due to crystal effects and are not isotopic splittings. The observed splittings are consistent with the monoclinic crystal structure reported to be the stable form below 225°K.
