Abstract A poor choice of location, because of bad weather and cultural clashes, is considered by the authors of this paper to be an unsatisfactory explanation for the financial problems at Euro Disney. As an alternative they explore the financial and management structures set up by its parent company, the Walt Disney Company. These, it is argued, imposed unreasonable burdens on operating profits through interest payments, lease rental payments and royalties and fees to be paid to the parent company. It is questioned whether the recent rescue package will resolve the basic structural problems with management and finance.
