ResumoGRASSI, B. Regulation of oxygen consumption at exercise onset: is it really controversial? Exerc. Sport Sci. Rev., Vol. 29, No. 3, pp 134–138, 2001. The conflicting hypotheses on the limiting factors for skeletal muscle V̇o2 on-kinetics might be reconciled in a unifying scenario. Under "normal" conditions, during transitions to moderate-intensity exercise, the limiting factor appears to be an inertia of oxidative metabolism. During transitions to exercise of higher metabolic intensity, O2 delivery could play a relatively minor but significant role as a limiting factor.
