ResumoAbstract The infrared spectrum of gaseous N2F4 has been observed and reanalyzed in the 4000-20 cm−1 region. A number of new details on band positions and infrared band contours is reported. The vibrational assignment, based on the new infrared data and earlier reported Raman data, strongly supports the idea that N2F4 actually consists of an equilibrium mixture of two rotational isomers, trans (C2h)- and gauche (C2-N2F4, differing very little in energy as suggested by NMR and electron diffraction data; it disagrees with another electron diffraction paper that reports the existence of one isomer only. The vibrational assignment differs considerably from earlier reported investigations.
