ResumoThis article presents a model which a community can use to offset the employment losses associated with the closure of a large employer. The model is particularly applicable to “company towns” and is based on the experience of a specific Swedish company town. The model requires cooperation between the company which plans to close the plant and the community which must arrange for alternative employment. Since successful cooperation leads to a restructuring of the local economy, the model is called a “community restructuring model”.
