Resumo

A study of the infra-red spectra of a number of diazonium salts shows that there is bonding from the anion to the cation in some of the salts. It is impossible to make a definite correlation between the N-N stretching frequency and electronic effects due to other substituents in the aromatic ring. The infra-red spectra of the p-dialkylaminobenzenediazonium and P-aminobenzenediazonium cations have been interpreted as favouring structures in which the positive charge is transferred from the diazonium group to the amine grouping.
