Rising, as these mountains do, through the latter sedimentaries of the prairie region midway between the Rocky mountains and the crumpled paleozoics of western Arkansas, they afford a key to many of the geological problems of the great plains. A detailed study of the region is of the first importance, if we are ever to know the geology of the plains region. While the present study is far from being sufficiently detailed to answer many of these problems, it is believed that important information worthy of permanent record has been obtained.
