Resumo

« The simple truth resists my toughness » : inventions and lies in the Historia verdadera de la conquista de la Nueva España by Bernai Diaz del Castillo. A careful study of the Historia verdadera written by Bernai Diaz questions the faithfulness of this source, especially when it sets apart from the authors it pretends correct ; this study equally allows to straighten several points of the history of the Spanish Conquest. B. Diaz does not hesitate to lie or to invent, in particular in order to defend the actions of the conquistadores at a time when they were criticized. The analysis proves, as well, the apocryphal character of a so-called merced of Cortez to the caciques of Axapusco.
