Resumo

Human malignant melanoma cells were examined by electron microscopy in order to determine the site of formation of the melanin granules. Evidence was obtained which indicated that the smallest melanin granules first appeared in the vesicles of the Golgi apparatus. Intermediate stages between small Golgi vesicles and mature melanin granules were also frequently observed. The observations generally provide support for the concept of the Golgi apparatus as the site of origin of the melanin granules in this human cell type.
