ResumoBond lengths in electroneutral, monomeric chloroplatinum(II) complexes containing carbon-donor ligands indicate that there is a correlation between the extent of platinumcarbon multiple bonding and the length of the PtCl (trans to C) bond. A qualitative model is suggested to account for the trans-influence of both σ-donor and π-acceptor ligands on PtCl bonds.
