ResumoSince the early nineteenth century, comics have been a medium for radical politics. This essay charts one line of history, from William Hone's pamphlets, to Jack Yeats' Chubblock Homes, Richard Felton Outcault's Yellow Kid, Art Young's socialist caricatures and Lynd Ward's early graphic novels. These satirical artists, among many others, have explored the latent political potency of a medium deliberately developed to appeal to an audience out of the cultural and political mainstream.
