ResumoLow levels of postheparin lipolytic activity (PHLA) were found in 4 patients with myxedema associated with relative elevations of plasma triglyceride. Treatment with thyroxin lowered serum triglyceride and restored PHLA to normal. Dietary manipulation affected PHLA and triglyceride in a reciprocal fashion both before and after thyroxin therapy. These reciprocal changes are consistent with an etiologic role for low PHLA in the development of hypertriglyceridemia in myxedema.
