ResumoIn a paper in this issue, Plettner et al. (p. 1851) describe the biosynthesis of honeybee queen mandibular pheromone. In his Perspective, Robinson discusses the social behaviors of bees that are controlled by this pheromone and highlights why elucidation of this pathway is a particularly significant achievement in the field of chemical ecology. Before 1 July 1996, the author will be in the Department of Biological Chemistry and the Charles E.
