Resumo

Data base software has been integrated with Mattson's Fourier transform infrared software package with UNIX shell programming to form a laboratory information system for a high-volume industrial analytical laboratory. The primary benefits have been time savings and increased productivity. Time savings have resulted from fewer data entries, faster information retrieval, and templated reports. The menu-driven system has also led to fewer mistakes. It is also possible to electronically mail reports to customers. In this article, a detailed description of the programming, implementation, and operation of this system will be given.
