Synthesis and properties of polymers

The a c i d i t y constants of a series of s u b s t i t u t e d 5-phenyl- 2-mercapto-1.3.4-oxadiazoles were determined by potentiometric and spectrophotometric methods i n 80% ("01.)ethanol-water a t 25-C.The data obtained by the two methods are i n good agreement.The p& values c o r r el a t e w i t h the o* constants of the substituted phenyl group XC6H4 (p = -0.985,= 0.936).however, a b e t t e r c o r r e l a t i o n of the p_la data w i t h the Hammett substituent constants ox (p = -0.983,r = 0.959) was obtained.
