He then spent three and a half years in the Korean Navy. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1988, after which he taught at Brown University for the period 1988–1994. He is currently a professor of mathematics at Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) located in Pohang City, South Korea. He has held visiting positions at several institutions including Indiana University at Bloomington, Washington University in St. Louis, and Université de Provence (Marseille, France). Kim received the 1997 Research Paper of the Year Award (Mathematics) from the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Associations, as well as the 2000 Research Achievement of the Year Award from the Korean Mathematical Society.Steven G. KrantzSTEVEN G. KRANTZ was an undergraduate at the University of California at Santa Cruz, where he received the B.A. degree in 1971. He earned his Ph.D. from Princeton University in 1974. Krantz has taught at UCLA, Princeton, Penn State, and Washington University in St. Louis (where he is now Chairman and Division Head for the Natural Sciences). Krantz has held visiting positions at the University of Paris, University Autonoma de Madrid, University of Uppsala, University of Umeå, Australian National University, University of Beijing, the Institute of Advanced Study, the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute, the American Institute of Mathematics, and numerous other schools and institutes. He is the author of forty-five books and 125 research articles. He has had fifteen Ph.D. students. Krantz is the holder of the UCLA Alumni Foundation Distinguished Teaching Award, the Chauvenet Prize, the Beckenbach Book Award, and the Outstanding Academic Book Award of the Current Review for Academic Libraries, 1998.
